Identity and website design for interior designer Robert Stilin.

CURIOSITY AND METHOD: TEN YEARS OF CABINET MAGAZINE

This anthology gathers some of the most interesting articles published in the first forty issues of Cabinet. Taking the form of an illustrated encyclopedia, the idiosyncratic entries include Addiction, Animal Architecture, Goalkeeping, Micronation, Otolith, Sandal, Worlding, and Zoosemiotics.

BOMB MAGAZINE

BOMB is a quarterly magazine edited by artists and writers. It is composed, primarily, of interviews between creative people working in a variety of disciplines — visual art, literature, music, film, theater and architecture.

MOXIE FIRECRACKER FILMS

Moxie Firecracker is a documentary film production company based in New York. Their films have gone on to win Emmy awards, Academy Award nominations, and numerous film festival awards. In 2012 we redesigned their identity and website.

CABINET MAGAZINE

Cabinet is a quarterly magazine of art and culture which presents wide-ranging and diverse content in each issue through the varied formats of regular columns, essays, interviews, and special artist projects.

FOUR

FOUR is composed of four individually titled poetry booklets: Lines to Undo Linearity, Shift, Mariposa Negra, and Photos While U Wait. The booklets we designed were printed on Risograph in blue, green, orange, and black, are separately bound and bundled together in a single package.

TWENTY-FOUR-HOUR BOOKS

Inspired by literary precedents such as automatic writing, by the resourcefulness of the bricoleur making do with what is at hand, and by the openness toward chance that all artistic production under severe constraint must necessarily incorporate, Cabinet’s “24-Hour Book” series invites a number of distinguished authors and artists to be incarcerated in its gallery space to complete a project from start to finish within twenty-four hours.

ARCH CONNELLY

Arch Connelly is an internationally recognized painter/sculptor who came to prominence in the East Village art scene of the early 1980′s. ES designed a website and catalogue on the occasion of his posthumous show at the La Mama Gallery in 2012.

GREEN PATRIOTS

Green Patriot is a not-for-profit organization that promotes sustainability and activism through design. ES contributed to there cause by designing a poster for their fight against climate change.

FUTUREPOEM

Futurepoem books is a New York-based publishing collaborative dedicated to presenting innovative works of contemporary poetry and prose by both emerging and important underrepresented writers.

KNOT PATTERNS

A project exploring the construction and design of knot patterns.

FLIGHT POSTCARDS

Artist Leah Beeferman asked artists to contribute designs for a postcard series on the theme of flight. Our contribution was based on the idea of passport stamping.

RETURN TO FUNCTION

ES designed a catalogue for the Return to Function exhibition at the Madison Museum of Contemporary Art. The show featured functional objects and examined the role these items play in our lives.

BOMB MAGAZINE (2009 – 2011)

BOMB is a quarterly magazine edited by artists and writers. It is composed, primarily, of interviews between creative people working in a variety of disciplines — visual art, literature, music, film, theater and architecture.

RYAN RUSSO

Artist Ryan Russo asked us to design a website showcasing his work. He wanted a basic site, but thought it would be nice if the design communicated some of the ideas in his painting.

SUPER ORANGE

ES designed the identity and website for Super Orange, the North American distributor for Moooi, Castor, Piet Boon Collection, Metalarte, Established & Sons, and Flux.

PARALLELOGRAMS

Parallelograms is an online multi-artist project exploring the relationship between images and interpretation.

THE BOOK OF STAMPS

In 2008 Cabinet commissioned ES to design a book where artists contributed projects to be printed on stamp paper.

TERRA INCOGNITA (A VIDEO GAME FOLLY)

Yoonjai Choi and Ken Meier at The Highlights asked us to write something based on the idea of repurposing old forms. Our submission was a crazy proposal for a dada-esque videogame.

CABINET EPHEMERA

In addition to art direction for Cabinet magazine, we often design postcards, posters, bookmarks, and other ephemera.
